Ligament Loads Increase During Unanticipated Cutting Tasks

چکیده
Unanticipated cutting tasks have been shown to increase the varus/valgus (VV) and internal/external rotation (IE) moments at the knee as much as 200% compared with cutting manoeuvres that are preplanned (Besier et al, 2001). These loads coupled with an external flexion moment during stance phase are hypothesised to be responsible for non-contact knee ligament injuries. Muscles have the potential to support these moments and reduce ligament load, however, whether they are activated to do so during cutting tasks remains to be seen. The purpose of this study was to use an EMG-Driven musculoskeletal model [2] to estimate the muscular support and soft tissue loading at the knee during pre-planned (PP) and unanticipated (UN) cutting manoeuvres.

Comparison of frontal plane trunk kinematics and hip and knee moments during anticipated and unanticipated walking and side step cutting tasks.
BACKGROUND Frontal plane trunk and lower extremity adjustments during unanticipated tasks are hypothesized to influence hip and knee neuromuscular control, and therefore, contribute to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk. The aims of this study were to examine frontal plane trunk/hip kinematics and hip and knee moments (measures of neuromuscular control) during unanticipated straight a...

STUDY DESIGN Two-factor, mixed experimental design. OBJECTIVES To compare movement patterns of subjects who are anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient and classified as noncopers to controls during early stance of anticipated and unanticipated straight and cutting tasks. BACKGROUND Altered neuromuscular control of subjects that are ACL deficient and noncoper theoretically influences mov...

Technique and knee loads in sidestep cutting 2 Abstract Purpose: To identify the effect of modifying sidestep cutting technique on knee loads and predict what impact such change would have on the risk of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament injury. Methods: A force platform and motion analysis system were used to r...
متن کاملBiomechanical Effects of an Injury Prevention Program in Preadolescent Female Soccer Athletes.
BACKGROUND Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are common, and children as young as 10 years of age exhibit movement patterns associated with an ACL injury risk. Prevention programs have been shown to reduce injury rates, but the mechanisms behind these programs are largely unknown. Few studies have investigated biomechanical changes after injury prevention programs in children. Purpose/H...
متن کاملImpact and Push-Off Force Symmetry in Dominant Versus Non-Dominant Legs During a Jump Landing/Cutting Task
Our goal was to examine ground reaction forces (GRF) following a series of unanticipated jump landing and cutting tasks (JLC) and the differences in these GRF’s associated with leg dominance. Nine recreationally active (at least 3x/week of running, cycling, aerobics, or recreational sports participation) right leg dominant females with no history of lower extremity injuries participated in the ...
